Laurel Farm, Great Gidding
Set on a disused farmyard in the village of Great Gidding, this site had previously been home to numerous schemes over the years.
With no luck finding an interested developer, the client sold part of the site to Jan Maciag to construct two houses. One, a self-build, was for Jan himself and the other for the Estate. The architectural practice of Folium Architects has moved onto the site and is housed in a converted livestock shed.
Undertaken as a learning experience, the project aims to use sustainable building technologies such as the insulated clay block system, along with MVHR, in a modern variation on a traditional form of solid wall construction.
